BaLSaM: RWTH und Partner entwickeln innovative Straßengeräuschsimulation für attraktive Lebensräume in Braunkohlerevieren

Das Projekt BaLSaM hat erfolgreich ein innovatives Tool zur Auralisierung von Straßenverkehrslärm in unterschiedlichen Verkehrsszenarien entwickelt und validiert. Unter Leitung des Instituts für Kraftfahrzeuge (ika) der RWTH Aachen University zielte das dreijährige Vorhaben darauf ab, die Auswirkungen von Verkehrslärm auf die Lebensqualität frühzeitig bewertbar zu machen – insbesondere mit Blick auf die Entwicklung neuer Lebensräume in den Braunkohlerevieren.

Sound propagation simulation in Git

The further development of the sound propagation simulation is now available in the RWTH-git! This is the Pynamic release. The application allows users to create precise models and analyze the effects of noise in various environments. To make optimal use of the software, Python 3.11 is required.

Second series of tire measurements on the test bench

Through the month of October, ika conducted a second series of acoustic measurements of tires at the tire testing stand. In this series, several different tires were measured; prior to the measurements, the drum surface was adapted to resemble a road surface. The initial results look promising, and an intensive evaluation is now underway.

Project extension by three months

We are pleased to announce that the project extension has been approved for an additional three months! This extra time allows us to further advance our research goals and gain deeper insights into our topics.
